Christmas lights & holiday events in South Carolina

South Carolina's Lowcountry Christmas is mild and coastal, where Spanish moss, palmetto trees and flickering candlelight give December nights a soft Southern glow.

Holiday Festival of Lights at James Island County Park

Drive-through lights Charleston, SC

Visitors drive a route of about three miles past more than 750 light displays, then park to explore a holiday village with a carousel, train ride and nightly Santa visits. The festival celebrated its 36th season in 2025.

Visiting: Open nightly from mid-November through New Year's Eve; buying tickets in advance helps on busy weekends.

Nights of a Thousand Candles at Brookgreen Gardens

Botanical garden lights Murrells Inlet, SC

Thousands of hand-lit candles and millions of small lights glow among the live oaks and American sculptures of Brookgreen Gardens, south of Myrtle Beach. The candlelit paths, live music and seasonal treats make it one of the state's most romantic holiday outings.

Visiting: Held on select evenings from late November into early January; tickets are sold through the gardens and often sell out.
