Christmas lights & holiday events in South Dakota

South Dakota's holidays come with frozen prairie nights, lights reflected in icy waterfalls and a state capitol filled with homemade Christmas trees.

Winter Wonderland at Falls Park

Park light show Sioux Falls, SD

The park around the city's namesake falls of the Big Sioux River is decorated with holiday light displays that sparkle over the rock and rushing water. Recent seasons have expanded the display to the nearby Jacobson Plaza, which adds a skating ribbon.

Visiting: Lit nightly from late November into early January; viewing the falls is free, though skating costs extra.

Christmas at the Capitol

Each year the halls of the South Dakota State Capitol are lined with roughly 100 Christmas trees decorated by community groups, schools and organizations from around the state. The free display is a beloved small-town-style tradition in the state's capital.
